MBBS Counselling is the process through which medical seats are allocated to students who qualify the NEET exam. Once NEET results are out, students can participate in the counselling process to select preferred medical colleges based on their rank, category, and seat availability.

There are two main types of counselling:

• All India Counselling (by MCC): Covers 15% of government seats and all seats in deemed universities.
• State Counselling (by respective state authorities): Covers 85% of government seats and all private college seats in the state.

MBBS Counselling: Eligibility Criteria

To participate in MBBS Counselling, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• NEET UG Qualification

You must have qualified the NEET UG  exam with the minimum required percentile:

1. General Category: 50th percentile
2. SC/ST/OBC: 40th percentile
3. PWD (General): 45th percentile

• Minimum Educational Qualification

1. Must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects.
2. General category candidates must have 50% aggregate marks; for SC/ST/OBC, it's 40%, and for PWD it's 45%.

• Age Criteria

1. Must be 17 years or older as on 31st December.
2. There is no upper age limit as per the latest NMC notification.

• Nationality

Must be an Indian citizen, NRI, OCI, PIO, or foreign national (depending on the type of seat applied for).

• Domicile Requirement (For State Counselling)

For state quota seats, candidates must fulfill domicile/residency rules of the respective state.

• Additional Requirements for NRI/Management Seats

1. For NRI quota, valid NRI documents and often an NRI sponsor affidavit are required.
2. For private colleges under management quota, NEET qualification is mandatory, but domicile is usually not required.

MBBS Counselling Process: Step by Step Guide

State Counselling Process

Step 1 - Visit State-Specific Counselling Portal
Each state has its own official counselling website. You must register there (not on MCC's portal).

Step 2 - Register and Pay Counselling Fee
Complete the online registration form and pay the applicable fee (varies by state).

Step 3 - Verify Eligibility (Domicile Requirement)
Most states require you to be a permanent resident (domicile) of the state to participate in state quota counselling.

Step 4 - Document Verification
Upload or present your NEET scorecard, domicile proof, academic certificates, ID proof, etc.

Step 5 - Choice Filling
Select and prioritize the medical colleges in the state as per your preference.

Step 6 - Seat Allotment
Based on your NEET rank, category, and filled choices, a college seat is allotted to you.

Step 7 - Reporting to the College
If satisfied with the allotted seat, report to the college within the given timeline to confirm admission.

Step 8 - Mop-Up Round (If Not Allotted Yet)
Extra round conducted to fill remaining vacant seats after main rounds.

Step 9 - Stray Vacancy Round
Final opportunity to get admission in any leftover seats, usually conducted directly by colleges under state authority guidance.

Central Counselling Process

Step 1 – Registration
The primary step is to register on the MCC Portal. To do so, visit the mcc official website i.e. (www.mcc.nic.in). Fill the registration form, pay the required mbbs central counselling fee and security deposit fees.

Step 2 - Choice Filling
Select your desired medical college in which you wish to pursue MBBS. 

Step 3 - Seat Allotment
On the basis of NEET Rank, category, seat is allotted and choices are filled.

Step 4 - Reporting / Upgradation
The last step is reporting to the college. Student have three options. One is to accept the seat and report to the allotted college. Second option is to hold the seat and wait for the better option in the next round. And the last option is if you get is if you get allotted in Round 1, you can upgrade to a better option. Student can then report to the college with all the necessary documents asked and pay the admission fee required.

Documents Required for MBBS Counselling

At the time of counselling and admission, candidates must carry both original and photocopies of the following documents:

• NEET UG Admit Card

– Issued by NTA; mandatory for identity verification.

• NEET UG Scorecard / Rank Letter

– Contains your NEET All India Rank and percentile.

• Class 10 Certificate & Marksheet

– Proof of date of birth and basic academic record.

• Class 12 Certificate & Marksheet

– Required to verify academic eligibility (PCB & English).

• Domicile Certificate (State Quota Only)

– To prove eligibility under the respective state quota.

• Caste Certificate (if applicable)

– For SC/ST/OBC candidates. Must be issued by a competent authority.

• EWS Certificate (if applicable)

– For candidates applying under the Economically Weaker Section quota.

• Disability Certificate (if applicable)

– Required for PwD category candidates, as per MCC/NMC norms.

• ID Proof (Aadhaar/PAN/Passport/Driving License)
