Why Kazakhstan for MBBS?

Indian students are increasingly choosing Kazakhstan for MBBS in 2026 due to high-quality education at affordable fees. Due to heavy competition, the limited number of seats offered by the Government, and unlike many private colleges in India that charge over ₹1 crore, Kazakhstan offers NMC-approved MBBS programs with no donation or capitation fees.

Here are some of the primary factors behind the selection of Kazakhstan by Indians:

Highly Affordable Fees: The fees start from just $3,500-$5,600 (around ₹3-₹5 lakhs) annually, making the complete six-year MBBS program (five years study+one year internship) relatively cheaper as compared to Indian colleges.

No Donation and No Extra Charges: It has a simple admission procedure, and NEET scores, along with 50%-60% marks in PCB class XII, will suffice for taking admission in it.

Medium of Teaching: The medium of teaching used for instruction purposes in the entire program is English.

MBBS Degrees Accredited: MBBS degrees issued by all the universities in the WDOMS list have been accredited by NMC (earlier called MCI) & WHO, meaning that MBBS degrees from these universities are globally recognized. MBBS Degrees Accreditation with NMC & WHO is important to practice in India and other countries too.

A Healthy & Safe Environment: Indian mess for Indians, Indian cuisine, low cost of living (₹15,000-20,000/month), and a healthy atmosphere.

Easier Admission Process: Admissions to this course do not involve the need for students to sit for IELTS/TOEFL and other such examinations; admissions shall be based only on the NEET score and the marks percentages of class 12.

High Standard of Education and Infrastructure: High standards of education, government universities, highly qualified teaching faculty, modern labs, and exposure to practical training make medical education in Kazakhstan excellent.

Kazakhstan offers the right balance between low-cost education, infrastructure, and an easy admission process. Thus, taking up medical education in Kazakhstan is the best decision made by Indians.

MBBS Fees

Affordable fees are a major reason Indian students choose Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan offers an incredibly cost-effective structure when compared to other private medical colleges in India, and at the same time, ensures quality education.

Average tuition fees for MBBS in Kazakhstan start from ₸1,500,000 to ₸3,500,000 per annum (Kazakhstani Tenge), roughly ₹3 lakhs to ₹7 lakhs per year. For the entire duration of 5-6 years of study, the cost comes down to about ₸9,000,000 to ₸18,000,000 (₹18 lakhs to ₹35 lakhs).

Other than fees for education, students will have to bear some costs in terms of living. In terms of living expenses, the expenditure comes out to be quite less, being around ₸80,000 to ₸150,000 per month (₹15,000 to ₹30,000). Various educational institutions also provide hostels to students at a nominal fee.

One more advantage of studying MBBS in Kazakhstan in terms of Indian fees is that no donations or capitation fees are required. The students will just require qualifying in the NEET examination, after which they can easily get admission into any university or college.

Cost of Living in Kazakhstan for Students

Kazakhstan offers one of the lowest costs of living among popular MBBS destinations. Monthly expenses for an Indian student are about ₹15,000 – ₹25,000 (about $180-$300 USD) based on the city, lifestyle, and whether the student chooses to stay in the hostel accommodation provided by the university and an Indian mess or cook his own food. The overall expenses in the Indian metros are higher compared to Kazakhstan for similar standards of living without any extra costs. Food and transport expenses are also quite low; however, Indian students may spend more on their food expenses.

Here is a comprehensive comparison of Indian and international students vs domestic students in Kazakhstan:

Accommodation: Indian students generally prefer to reside in the hostel of the university or dormitory managed by Indians (accommodations of two-four students), which costs ₹4,000 - ₹8,000 per month. However, there are private accommodations which are priced at ₹12,000 – ₹25,000+ per month. However, domestic students have cheaper accommodation charges at hostels (at around 30,000-100,000 KZT, which is roughly ₹6,000 - ₹20,000).

Food: Indian students: ₹ 8,000 to ₹ 15,000 per month. They may choose to join the mandatory Indian mess during the first year (₹ 10,000-12,000) or cook their own food using local and imported Indian spices (more cost-effective in the long run). They can dine out now and then to supplement their diet.

Domestic students: Much cheaper at ₹ 4,000-8,000 as they will be having their local Kazakh/Russian cuisine, which is much cheaper, and they get cheap canteen meals that cost around ₹ 150-300 per meal.

Transport: For both Indians and domestic students: very economical. A single ticket from a bus/ tram will be around ₹ 15-25, while a monthly pass will be ₹ 800-1500. Taxis (Yandex) are also quite cheap to hire for occasional trips. Indian students do not require more than ₹ 1,000-2,000 per month.

Utilities & Miscellaneous (internet, electricity, stationery, laundry, SIM card): Around ₹ 2,000 – 4,000 for both. It will be even lower since they will live in shared hostel accommodation.

Monthly budget (without tuition fee and other one-off expenses):

MBBS students: Indian students: ₹ 15,000-25,000

Tips for Indian Students:

Choose hostels with an Indian mess initially for comfort, then switch to self-cooking to save money. Almaty and Astana have Indian grocery stores. Total annual living cost usually stays under ₹2-3 lakhs, making Kazakhstan highly budget-friendly compared to other abroad options. Also, the costs can vary slightly with inflation and personal habits. Students should budget an extra 10-15% for emergencies

Kazakhstan’s low cost of living, combined with safe student-friendly cities and Indian community support, makes it an economical choice without compromising the quality of student life.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria for Indian students are straightforward. These criteria are easy enough and thus make Kazakhstan a favorite choice among medical destinations abroad.

Students must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from any well-known board like CBSE, ICSE, or even from any state board. The major subjects need to be Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and one has to score 50% marks in general and 40% in reserved categories in PCB subjects.

It is essential for Indian students to qualify for the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). As per the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines, NEET is mandatory not just for the admission process but also to practice the profession as a doctor after the completion of MBBS in any foreign country.

Age-wise, candidates need to have attained an age of at least 17 years on 31st December of the respective academic year. There are no restrictions in terms of upper age limits as per the current guidelines.

The other benefit is that almost all the universities offering MBBS in Kazakhstan for Indian students offer the program in the English language, which means that there will be no need to take IELTS or TOEFL tests. However, candidates require a valid passport for the visa process.
